On October 18^th, 2017, W&B partner Ms. Yiqi Cai attended the “Belt and Road Initiative” International Entrepreneurship Forum organized by Huachuang Huyang University’s International Entrepreneurship School (prep). She delivered a lecture in English entitled “A Roadmap for Starting a Business in China”.

Ms. Cai drew on her rich experience providing services for investment projects in China for many of well-known international enterprises to suggest ways for foreign entrepreneurs to invest in China from the perspectives of content and procedure.

First of all, before commencing any investment or entrepreneurship undertaking in China, a foreign investor should consider the following issues:

·         whether to establish a company or a representative office;

·         whether its scope of business is prohibited or restricted by the catalogue for foreign investment;

·         how much registered capital will be required; and

·         the location of the enterprise’s registered address.

Secondly, in the wake of new regulations, the procedures for incorporating a foreign-invested company are:

i). enterprise name approval;

ii). AIC registration;

iii). obtaining a “Five-in-One” business license; and

iv). registration or approval of foreign currency, Customs or special industry permits (if necessary);

After incorporation, the company is also required to submit an online annual report before June 30^th of every year, undergo a unified annual online inspection before August 31^st of every year, and promptly update registration information in case of any changes.

Ms. Cai’s clear and lucid lecture was welcomed by vigorous interaction and responses from the young domestic and international entrepreneurs who attended.
