Watson & Band in Seattle || Spotlight on the 140th INTA Annual Meeting (II): W&B Partners as Moderators for the Round Table Discussion

Round table discussions are known as a classic event for the INTA Annual Meeting. On the morning of May 23rd, Watson & Band Partner, Co-chairman of INTA Bulletin China Subcommittee, Cathy Wu, and Watson & Band Partner, Joe Liu, respectively served as moderator and co-moderator (hereinafter collectively the “Moderators”) for the round table discussion entitled “OEM and Transnational Counterfeits: Status, Strategy and Solution”.

The Moderators first introduced the background related to the topic. Then they started from the OEM modes and current status and summarized the three major factors that the Chinese courts would take into account when determining whether the acts of OEM factories should constitute infringement of the relevant trademark rights. On that basis, the Moderators proposed a series of to-the-point questions to the panel members and encouraged discussions among them.

Then the Moderators continued to talk about the current status of transnational counterfeits: the international counterfeiting groups are prone to look for OEM manufacturers who are only responsible for the production or other middle processes, while different foreign sellers are in charge of overseas sales. After clarifying such a mode, the Moderators again proposed a series of questions to the panel members.

Finally, with a sufficient understanding of OEM and transnational counterfeits, the Moderators proposed further questions and guided the panel members to work out countermeasures and solutions to these problems.

This has been the first time that Watson & Band’s young-generation Partners cooperate to host the INTA round table discussion. With years of tactic understanding, Cathy and Joe perfectly cooperated to bring the round table’s advantages into full play and achieved the anticipated effect of discussion.
